The photos here illustrate scenes from daily life in Beijing as well as the "must-see" places in Beijing. To make loading faster I have spread the photos over eight pages.

The entrance to the walls of Tian An Men, under Mao Zedong's ever watchful eyes.

The Imperial Garden is at the end of the Palace Museum at Tian An Men. Of interest here are the rocky towers and the cypress trees that have stood the test of time.

Hordes of tourists throng the Palace Museum aka the Forbidden City (Gugong Bowuyuan) daily to walk in the footsteps of some 24 emperors of China's past dynasties.

Two policemen keeping an eye (or rather four eyes) over the whole courtyard of Tian An Men.

A big crowd is always present to watch the unfurling of the flag at Tian An Men Square every evening at sunset.

The Sun Yat-Sen Park is just next to Tian An Men. Good place to rest your legs after your visit to the Forbidden City.

NOTE: If there is a city where it is a good idea to bring your compass along with you when travelling it is Beijing. For whether you take the underground or follow street directions you will, now and again, come up with Dong (East), Nan (South), Xi (West) and Bei (North) in their names. When you ask for street directions you are sometimes told "You go to that place, then you follow west." To make matters worse sometimes two directions are used in the same name eg. West of South Road! But there is nothing to beat this road near the National Art Museum of China. It's called Dongxi Beidajie (East West North Avenue). Go figure!
